The Nigerian well-known musicians, legendary singer-songwriters and entertainers – The News Waves also known as Dready Boys were one of the best Nigerian music groups in 1980s.
They focused their music career on highlife, Afrobeat, and reggae. The New Waves music group became exclusively popular in the early 1990s with their creative songs and albums.
However, The Dready Boys comprised four legendary members, Amos McRoy, Black Rice, Majek Fashek and Ras Kimono. They are also considered the Nigerian reggae founding fathers.

Truly, The New Waves‘ songs bring memories that remind us of when Nigeria was still in better shape. They started their music career in the 1980s in Jastix Benin City where they visited hotels, clubs and meeting events for music shows.
Eventually, they had an opportunity to travel to Lagos for greener pastures. They met a record producer Jackson Lemmy who actually gave them record label name (The New Waves).
One of their greatest album, Reggae Is The King opened door for nomination and many awards. It was released in 1989.
